The AR-10 is a .308 Winchester (7.62x51mm NATO) rifle developed by Eugene Stoner in the late 1950s at ArmaLite, then a division of the Fairchild Aircraft Corporation. AramLite is the source of the term "AR" for the AR-10 and AR-15 Rifles. Despite alt left liberal beliefs, AR does not nor has it ever stood for Assault Rifle. When first introduced in 1956, the AR-10 used an innovative straight-line barrel/stock design with phenolic composite and forged alloy parts resulting in a small arm which was significantly easier to control in automatic fire. The rifle was over 1 lb (0.45 kg) lighter than other infantry rifles of the day. While the AR-10 was never formally adopted by the United States Military, just over 9,900 rifles were manufactured.
The private industry and sport shooters have embarrassed the AR-10 and it continues to thrive to this day. In U.S. Army tests at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in November 1960, the AR-10 gained and continues to this day to have a stellar reputation for accuracy. AR-10 Rifles will group three rounds at 100 meters with service ammunition in 0.75". A test target is included with each rifle made by Bishop Ammunition & Firearms. AR-10 is a trademark of ArmaLite Inc. Bishop Ammunition & Firearms manufactures AR-10 .308 Winchester/7.62 NATO Rifles in both a Match Target and 3 Gun Heavy Competition Rifle.
